02 October 2016 – DAY 1 – Depart Evening JFK – NYC to Johannesburg

Check-in for your flight from New York to Johannesburg with South African Airlines.

Johannesburg is one of Africa’s biggest and most vibrant cities. It is the economic capital of Africa and the gateway to Southern Africa. Although not as famous as other South African destinations, there is plenty to do in Johannesburg and nearby Pretoria. The old city is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks and ultra modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organized tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa’s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. The nearby township of Soweto is Johannesburg’s most popular tourist attraction.

03 October 2016 – DAY 2
Arrive in Johannesburg, South Africa
On arrival at Johannesburg airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel for overnight.

Southern Sun Hyde Park Sandton Next to the Hyde Park Corner Shopping Centre, this contemporary, upscale hotel. Slick rooms come with free WiFi, iPod docks, flat-screen TVs with cable channels, and tea/coffee making equipment. 04 October 2016 – DAY 3

Today you will have a full day Journey to Freedom Tour including Hector Pieterson Museum, Mandela House – for own account, Regina Mundi Church, which is the largest Roman-Catholic church in South Africa. Hector Pieterson Museum commemorates the role of the country’s students in the struggle against apartheid. The site is just blocks away from where 12-year old Hector Pieterson was shot in 1976. Lunch at Sakhumzi Restaurant and visit the Apartheid Museum. The Apartheid Museum, the first of its kind, illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid.

October 2016 – Day 4

Pilanesberg and Sun City day tour including: a 4×4 game drive (safari) in Pilanesberg and the afternoon at leisure in Sun City Resort. Pilanesberg Game Reserve hosts the Big 5 amongst many other mammals and bird species. It is situated in the North West Province and is in a malaria free area close to Sun City and approximately 2 hours drive from Johannesburg. Overnight & breakfast at the Sandton Sun

06 October 2016 – Day 5

This morning you will be transferred from your hotel to the airport in time for your flight to Cape Town. On arrival at Cape Town airport you will be met/transferred to

It’s 2 blocks from the railway station and a 12-minute walk from the convention centre. Low-key rooms have free WiFi, tea and coffee making facilities, and either mountain or sea views. 07 October 2016 – Day 6

Today you will have a full day City and Robben Island tour including: Table Mountain (weather permitting), a drive through orientation tour of the City, and an afternoon excursion to Robben Island (weather permitting).The standard tour to Robben Island is 3.5 hours long, including the two half-hour ferry rides. From the 17th to the 20th centuries, Robben Island served as a place of banishment, isolation and imprisonment. Today it is a World Heritage Site and museum, a poignant reminder to the newly democratic South Africa of the price paid for freedom. It is important for all visitors to experience all phases of the Island, to realize that the Island is a place of pain and a place of triumph and victory. The island tour discusses these themes as well as the detention and isolation of insane females, people with leprosy and prisoners, including African chiefs in the 1800’s. The Prison tour depicts the lives of political prisoners detained from the 1960’s to 1991. Former Robben Island prisoners conduct the tour.The Robben Island Tour includes: A return boat trip across Table Bay, a visit to the infamous Maximum Security Prison, interaction with an ex-political prisoner, a 45-minute bus ride with a guide providing commentary, the opportunity to explore the Murray’s Bay Harbour precinct attractions, such as the Muslim shrine, or kramat and the Museum Shop.

08 & 09 October 2016 – Day 7 & 8 (optional tours leisure.)
You may like to do an optional full day peninsula tour or winelands tour. (not included in base price)

Full day Peninsula tour: Today you will have a full day coach & guide Peninsula tour. Drive by Clifton, Camps Bay & Llandudno.
Full day Winelands tour: Today will be a full day coach & guide winelands tour. Visit Huguenot Monument in Franschhoek and walking tour of Stellenbosch. You will have a cellar tour and wine tasting at two estates. Lunch is included at Lord Neethling. Return to your hotel for overnight.

10 October 2016 – Day 9
After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy time at leisure until you are met by the guide for the transfer to the airport to board the flight to Johannesburg and the onward flight home.
